Carpet Python Shows How Adept They Are at Climbing

Coastal Carpet Pythons are arboreal snakes meaning they spend a lot of their time above ground. The muscles in their long bodies assist them to climb rough and smooth surfaces. Even flat surfaces can be scaled by these adept climbers. Carpet Pythons consume a wide variety of prey, with adults usually favouring mammals and birds, while juveniles may also eat lizards. They operate both as active hunters and ambush predators, and so they need to climb to access their prey such as birds, eggs, possums and rodents.

As they’re such excellent climb we need to ensure to properly secure pet cages or bring them inside, particularly at night when pythons are most active.

This individual was removed from a client’s porch in Sunnybank. You can see that is able to wedge itself in the grooves to climb straight this brick wall.

Burton’s Legless Lizard

Burton’s Legless Lizard

Our catcher removed this Burton’s Legless lizard after a case of mistaken identity

This slender lizard species is often mistaken for a snake given they are often a brown colour and lack obvious legs. The shape of the head, visible ears and tiny remnant legs are the best ways to pick them. We do recommend getting in contact with a professional snake service for identification and removal if you’re unsure.

The Burton’s Legless Lizard is a members of the Pygopodid family and eat small skinks. With a fleshy tongue and angular head, they’re always an interesting find.

Deceptive Identification-Eastern Brown Snake

Deceptive Identification-Eastern Brown Snake

Key ID Markers In Snakes Can Be Deceptive

The Eastern Brown Snake is commonly encountered throughout the Brisbane region in suburban yards and businesses. Some of the key markers to identify snakes can be deceptive, so we always recommend keeping a safe distance from all snakes you encounter, and keeping pets and children away until a snake catcher is able to attend.

This species is known to be extremely variable in colour and pattern. The close up on the left could almost be seen as the scales of a Keelback Snake, a non venomous species. Many snakes found through the South-East Queensland region are often confused for one another.

We as snake catchers know what to look for in snake identification: the shape of the eye and head, body, scales, movement and behaviour. We make sure to tick several boxes to be certain enough to correctly identify a snake.
