The S Bend

Eastern Brown Snake in defensive S Bend Position

The S Bend is a sign that a snake is feeling threatened and is prepared to strike in Defence

Our snake catchers come across this defensive behaviour from many snakes they encounter, but the Eastern Brown Snake is probably the species in our region best known to display this behaviour. They will curve their body in an ‘S’ in preparation for striking at a threat or prey animal.
